My hometown.
Nineteen years.
In 1993, I left for Vienna.
Zeltweg felt small.
Regressive.
Provincial.
I turned away
In 2025, I returned.
With Veronika Merklein.
She said:
“There is something of Detroit here.”
I had never seen it.
That shift changed everything.
The series began.
Two places.
Separated by distance.
Linked by erosion and industry.
Not comparison.
Resonance.
Zeltweg through a shifted lens.
Function recedes.
Form remains.
Industrial surfaces.
Quiet residues of labor.
Detroit not as model.
As echo.
Not decline.
Memory.
Observation replaces narration.
